ONE Taps Kimberly Hunter for U.S. Press Secretary
Washington, D.C.-ONE, a global anti-poverty group, today announced that Kimberly Hunter has joined ONE’s Communication team as its new U.S. Press Secretary. In her new role, Kimberly will serve as ONE’s official spokeswoman, developing and executing proactive media strategies to advance ONE’s key goals and agenda, in addition to cultivating relationships with reporters and U.S. media outlets. Kim also works closely with ONE’s policy, community partnerships, and government affairs teams, as well as coordinating with communications staff in ONE’s London and Berlin offices.
Kimberly joins ONE after seven years working in Democratic politics. Prior to ONE, she served as Virginia Senator Jim Webb’s Press Secretary since his election in 2006. During her time in Senator Webb’s office, Kimberly was integral in raising the public awareness and the political support to pass legislation to provide a new GI Bill for returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. In addition to her focus on the armed services and national security, Kimberly also executed media strategies to support the successful creation of a Commission on Wartime Contracting to root out waste, fraud, and abuse in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Kim brings a wealth of innovative communications campaign experience and media relations skills to ONE,” said ONE U.S. Executive Director Sheila Nix. “We are thrilled to have her bring a fresh perspective and help lead ONE’s media efforts to help mobilize our members behind new efforts that are helping the world’s poor fight extreme poverty and save lives worldwide.”
“I am enthusiastic to join ONE’s team of committed advocates in the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease,” said U.S. Press Secretary Kimberly Hunter. “Joining ONE, an organization that mobilizes more than 2 million members to be voices of change while working at the highest levels of leadership to advance smart development policies, is my opportunity to help improve the lives of more than 1.4 billion people worldwide affected by extreme poverty. I look forward to communicating ONE’s agenda and serving as a resource for media interested in these important issues.”
In addition to her experience on Capitol Hill, Kimberly also worked on the communications teams at the Democratic National Committee and in the office of Senator Edward Kennedy. A graduate of George Washington University with a degree in political communication, Kim also holds a Masters from GW’s Graduate School of Political Management. Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, she has lived in D.C. for the past nine years.
