ONE statement on Senate cuts to foreign aid
WASHINGTON – The ONE Campaign released the below statement following the release and passage of the Senate’s Fiscal Year 2024 State and Foreign Operations Topline of $58.4 billion:
Liz Leibowitz, Senior Director of Government Relations, The ONE Campaign:
“While we appreciate the Senate’s constraints following the debt limit agreement, we are concerned by the Senate SFOPS allocation, approximately $1 billion less than the Fiscal Year 2023 bill. Global challenges require us to maintain our investments or we risk losing many of the gains we have made in our fight against disease and poverty. Though this allocation is an improvement over the House’s drastic cuts, given the myriad of complex challenges the world is facing, any cuts below the Fiscal Year 2023 level will make us less competitive, prevent us from delivering on our commitments, and undermine our global partnerships.”
