ONE Statement on President Biden’s $5 Billion COVID Supplemental Request
WASHINGTON– The ONE Campaign released the following statement in response to President Biden’s formal request for $5 billion to continue to fight COVID-19 globally. The request includes $1.8 billion for vaccine donations and deployments and $1.7 billion for health systems support and tests and therapeutics needed to save lives now.
Tom Hart, President of The ONE Campaign:
“We are grateful the Biden Administration is putting forward this official request. A $5 billion investment is sure to move us forward, providing critically needed support to deliver vaccines and other assistance to low income countries.
“We now turn to Congress with a message: This $5 billion request is the floor, not the ceiling. The US has done more than any country to combat COVID globally and, for that, we are grateful. But our fight isn’t over yet. Stopping COVID globally isn’t just the right thing to do– it’s in the best interest of our national health and security. We strongly urge Congress to support the $17 billion investment necessary to provide the resources, treatments, and technology that will help us end the COVID-19 pandemic once and for all. $5 billion is not enough to finish the job.”
