ONE Statement on Humanitarian Assistance in Emergency Supplemental
WASHINGTON – The ONE Campaign released the following statement on the draft text of the National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024 which, if passed, would provide $9.2 billion in humanitarian and food assistance for conflict-affected regions around the world, including the Horn of Africa.
Suzanne Granville, North America Executive Director at the ONE Campaign:
“We’re relieved to see the Senate include President Biden’s full request for humanitarian assistance which, we believe, sufficiently recognizes the current severity of need felt by millions of people around the world, particularly in the Horn of Africa where conflict and a dire hunger crisis are exacting widespread suffering. We applaud the bipartisan work of Senate leadership and appropriators to move this necessary funding forward.
“We urge both chambers to work swiftly to finalize and approve this funding and ask all Members of Congress to prioritize strong US leadership through robust foreign assistance appropriations.”
