ONE Reacts to Remarks from Secretary Clinton

Washington D.C. – Today, Secretary Clinton delivered remarks on the direction of United States global development strategy and its role in U.S foreign policy.  Following the speech, David Lane, President and CEO of ONE, said:

“Secretary Clinton today voiced a vision for U.S. development policy that the entire country can get behind. By investing in global health, sustainable agriculture, education and support for local governance now, we can strengthen the United States’ position on the international stage and help people create better lives.

“Secretary Clinton outlined a cohesive approach and drew out the most important tools for smart development policy – creating programs that are led by the developing countries, enabling innovation and harnessing the power of women.

“These tools can only work if they are managed by agencies that are working together to make the most of our investments. Already, tens of thousands of ONE members have asked President Obama and members of Congress to ensure our tools are aligned through a National Strategy on Global Development. Secretary Clinton called for support to help make a whole of government, coordinated approach focused on development outcomes a high priority.

“Momentum is building. Now is the time to push forward to make sure our development programs are maximizing global security and economic opportunities.”
