ONE Campaign Teams Up with Award Winning Film “We Are Together (Thina Simunye)”
New York, NY — The ONE Campaign announced today that they are teaming up with the producers of “WE ARE TOGETHER (Thina Simunye)” to launch and promote the multi-award winning film in the US.
“WE ARE TOGETHER (THINA SIMUNYE)”, which recently took the overall Audience Award as well as a Special Jury Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival, continues to gather momentum, as they add their partnership with the ONE Campaign to their existing relationship with pop star Alicia Keys’ charity, Keep A Child Alive.
“WE ARE TOGETHER (THINA SIMUNYE)” tells the story of children in the South Africa Agape Orphanage, most of whom have lost their loved ones to AIDS. Told with compassion and grace, this uplifting film celebrates the children’s indomitable spirits and musical aspirations as they form the Children of Agape Choir. Variety recently described the movie as a “Celebration of resiliency” and a “glorious chorale”.
“We’re delighted to be supporting this beautiful, moving and important film,” stated Meighan Stone, the ONE Campaign’s Director of Special Projects. “‘WE ARE TOGETHER (THINA SIMUNYE)’ is a powerful and emotional tool in the global fight against HIV/AIDS. It offers a refreshing sense of hope and strength in the face of such adversity. We’re proud to be part of a film that will help raise awareness that together, we can fight global AIDS and extreme poverty and save and change lives in Africa and the world’s poorest countries.”
“WE ARE TOGETHER (THINA SIMUNYE)” has won seven major prizes, including three coveted audience awards, having played at only a handful of festivals.
“WE ARE TOGETHER (THINA SIMUNYE)” director, Paul Taylor said, “We are honored to be working with ONE. They’re such an important organization that has achieved so much and they are a great fit for our film.”
Producer, Teddy Leifer added, “With ONE.org and Keep A Child Alive on board, our ability to reach audiences is really strengthened. We’ve got a great team and everyone’s excited about the year ahead.”
Annie Roney of ro*co films international is negotiating both international and domestic sales for the film, with a North American theatrical deal expected to close within a couple of weeks.
“WE ARE TOGETHER (THINA SIMUNYE)” is a Rise Films production, in association with HBO Documentary Films and The Channel 4 British Documentary Film Foundation.
Keep A Child Alive (KCA) is an urgent response to the AIDS pandemic ravaging Africa. With 28 million already dead, the disease continues, wiping out whole societies, threatening economic infrastructure and creating tragic devastation in the family structure. KCA provides medical services needed to make treatment possible. Doctors, nutrition, testing, transportation and treatment for opportunistic infections are all necessary for anti-retroviral treatment to be successful. When necessary, KCA also provides nutrition for its patients. Keep A Child Alive is headed by Leigh Blake.
