ONE Applauds Senate Passage of International Food Aid Reforms
WASHINGTON (February 4, 2014)–The ONE Campaign today commends Senate lawmakers on both sides of the aisle on the passage of the international food aid reforms in the 2014 Farm Bill. The bill passed the Senate 68-32 and the White House has stated that President Obama will likely sign it into law. These newly passed reforms provide much-needed flexibility to the way the United States currently delivers its food aid.
Tom Hart, U.S. Executive Director of ONE, said:
“We welcome the Senate’s passage of these crucial reforms to international food aid and applaud Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Ranking Member Thad Cochran (R-MS) and House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas (R-OK) and Ranking Member Collin Peterson (D-MN) for their hard work for making food aid reform a reality in the FARRM Bill.
These new reforms ensure that, when millions of lives are on the line due to a shortage of food, the generosity of the American people will reach more people, more quickly, and at lower cost.
We urge President Obama to sign this bill as soon as possible.”
