ONE Applauds Funding for Foreign Assistance Programs in FY 2014 Budget Bill
WASHINGTON (January 16, 2014) — The FY 2014 omnibus appropriations bill – now passed by the US House and Senate – robustly funds, and, in some cases, increases, many of ONE’s core priorities for the remainder of the fiscal year. They include the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), Feed the Future, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
Tom Hart, ONE’s US Executive Director, said:
We applaud the hard work of members and their staff to establish these funding levels, especially Senators Mikulski (D-MD), Shelby (R-AL), Leahy (D-VT), and Graham (R-SC) as well as Representatives Rogers (R-KY), Lowey (D-NY), and Granger (R-TX). We are pleased this bill protects programs that save lives and help lift millions of people out of extreme poverty.
Despite the current spending environment, this legislation is a clear demonstration that both sides of the aisle and both chambers in Congress are committed to coming together on behalf of the world’s poorest people.
