New ONE Initiative Presents World through Eyes of Girls & Women
Guest curators Phiona Mutesi, Dana Perino, and Lauren Bush Lauren kick off new go-to site for girls and women issues in the developing world
July 10, 2014, WASHINGTON, DC – The ONE Campaign today launched a new Girls and Women initiative, with the goal of motivating people to take action against extreme poverty, which disproportionately affects girls and women. The program will feature a vibrant web portal which will serve as the go-to site for news and information on issues affecting girls and women, all curated by high-profile, compassionate influencers.
Phiona Mutesi, the “Queen of Katwe” is a world renowned 18 year-old Ugandan chess player and inspiration to girls around the globe. Mutesi, whose incredible life story is being made into a motion picture, will be kicking off the program as July’s guest curator of ONE.org/us/women.
Mutesi said:
“I am so honored to be the first guest curator for ONE’s Girls and Women program and hope that it will be a resource for encouragement and empowerment as we work together to address the injustices faced by girls and women everywhere. I believe that given the opportunity, there is no end to what girls and women can achieve, and that their hearts, minds, and dreams have the power to change the world.”
Other guest curators will include Fox News Channel’s ‘The Five’ co-host Dana Perino and FEED founder Lauren Bush Lauren among other high-profile movers and shakers who are dedicated to addressing the development issues that prevent girls and women from living full, productive and happy lives.
ONE has long championed the notion that collaborative efforts are more effective in the fight against extreme poverty, and in that same spirit, the program will provide a platform for ONE’s many partners to showcase and highlight their transformative work to ONE’s more than 2 million U.S. members. The program will also feature an expansion of the highly successful ONE Moms blogger program.
Above all, the driving force behind the Girls and Women initiative is action. Individuals who visit ONE.org/us/women will have the opportunity to explore ONE’s partners for more opportunities to take action on the issues that they are most passionate about while helping to advance the cause of girls and women, around the world.
