Condoleezza Rice, Lawrence Summers, Sheryl Sandberg Join ONE Board of Directors
WASHINGTON — ONE is delighted to welcome former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence Summers and Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg to its Board of Directors. Joining ONE co-founder Bono and a distinguished group of more than a dozen leaders from business, government, and the non-profit community, the new board members will help ONE in its mission to combat extreme poverty and preventable disease.
“We are thrilled to have Condoleezza Rice, Lawrence Summers and Sheryl Sandberg join our work,” says ONE CEO Michael Elliott. “Throughout their accomplished careers, they have witnessed first-hand how cost-effective policies and programs are saving millions of lives and helping to stabilize communities in the poorest parts of the world.”
Rice calls American leadership in the global fight against extreme poverty and disease “our moral obligation as a nation.”
“It also promotes our national security and economic interests and creates goodwill for the United States around the globe,” she says.
Summers, one of America’s most distinguished economists, says, “It makes fiscal sense to support smart and effective foreign aid programs that are saving millions of lives. The fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease is something all Americans – Democrats, Republicans, students, religious leaders – can rally around because it makes the world safer, healthier, and more stable.”
On joining the ONE board, Sandberg says, “No organization is doing more to fight extreme poverty than ONE. In country after country, ONE promotes democracy, transparency and accountability – and encourages political leaders to support the policies that can save and improve lives around the world. I am thrilled to be continuing my work with this dedicated team.”
