ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Social Media & Communications Coordinator is responsible for supporting the organization’s Canada social media engagement strategy encompassing high profile social media campaigns in Canada. Reporting to the Associate Director (Media and Communications), the Social Media and Communications Assistant will work closely with the key communications staff in other teams in North America, Europe, and Africa and will be supported by other media staff across the organization as required.

The ideal candidate will be a great team player with an aptitude for contributing to and overseeing projects, problem solving, and organization. They should demonstrate an interest in development issues and African current affairs, the ability to communicate complex issues concisely, and with attention to detail.

This is a fixed term (one year), opportunity reporting directly to the Associate Director, Canada (Media and Communications) based in the Ottawa area.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

  • Coordinate and contribute to specific projects and communications activity – demonstrating an awareness of different communications channels, and how social media and communications activity supports wider team goals and priorities
  • Identify and target key social media opportunities, drafting content for social media
  • Pitch highly impactful and high-level stories to include in our outreach and web presence
  • Draft communications content (press releases, articles, op-eds, and web content) in French and English for review and approval
  • Analyze social media metrics for impact, identifying trends and opportunities for ONE, provide social media updates for the team as required
  • Develop ideas for social media friendly campaign stunts and news media pictures and support the coordination of their implementation
  • Under the direction of the Associate Director, support the team with design and formatting of documents and campaigning materials adhering to ONE’s brand guidelines
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING TO ONE

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, a liberal arts degree focused on political science, communications, or similar program
  • 2+ years’ relevant professional/intern experience (will consider internship experience)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Canva, X/Twitter, Meta platforms, and other communication tools.
  • Basic design capabilities (ex. using Canva or other design software) and video creation and editing a strong asset
  • Ability to manage multiple, shifting priorities under tight deadlines while performing in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Related work history in poverty and infectious disease alleviation, advocacy, policy, legislation and/or demonstrable interest in the causes ONE supports
  • Authorized to work in Canada is required

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Fluency in English required.  Fluency in French is a distinct advantage.

TRAVEL: 

Occasional domestic travel (5-10%) may be required. Additional international and/or domestic travel opportunities may occur.

COMPENSATION:

CAD$43,500 – $55,000 per year

This salary range is based on compensation survey data for similar organizations and is used to set pay internally at ONE. Where a new hire’s salary falls within this range is based on a variety of factors, including the budget available for this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

ONE in Canada operates mostly in a virtual environment. The position will require the candidate to be in Ottawa an average of 2 times/month for events or meetings, traveling by their own means if they are not a resident of Ottawa.
