ONE Statement on Selection of Dr. Jim Yong Kim as President of the World Bank

Washington, D.C.— Michael Elliott, President and CEO of ONE, issued the following reaction to the selection of Dr. Jim Yong Kim as President of the World Bank:

“ONE congratulates Dr. Jim Kim on his selection by the Executive Directors of the World Bank as the Bank’s next president. Dr. Kim is a hero of global health who will fight for the world’s poorest people, and we very much look forward to working with him on all aspects of development as the Bank continues to combat extreme poverty and extend human dignity.

“We express our appreciation, too, to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and José Antonio Ocampo, whose candidacies helped lead to a global debate on the role of the Bank and show how much the world has changed. Looking ahead, we hope the Bank – along with all other international institutions – will continue to consider how best they can align their selection procedures with commitments to true openness and transparency. Today, all who wish the Bank well congratulate Dr. Kim on his appointment and look forward to working with him and the Bank’s staff as it advances its mission.”
