ONE Taps Campaign Veteran Mike Henry to Lead Field Operation

Washington, D.C.-ONE today announced that seasoned campaign veteran Mike Henry will lead ONE’s U.S. grassroots campaign and advocacy efforts as its new Senior Director of U.S. Field Operations.

Henry comes to ONE with nearly 20 years of national campaign experience, both in political strategy and grassroots organizing. Most recently, Henry served as Deputy Campaign Manager for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign and as Campaign Manager for then Virginia Gov. Mark Warner’s successful 2008 Senate campaign. Henry also managed former chairman of the Democratic National Committee Terry McAuliffe’s campaign for Governor of Virginia in 2009.

“Mike brings a wealth of national campaign experience and political savvy to ONE,” said ONE U.S. Executive Director Sheila Nix. “We are thrilled to have him lead ONE’s grassroots efforts across the country to help us mobilize Americans behind efforts that are saving lives and helping the world’s poor fight extreme poverty.”

In his new role, Henry will lead ONE’s field strategy and grassroots organizing, which includes staff and activities in nearly every state. Among its functions, ONE’s field operation works to create political will in key congressional districts for bipartisan global poverty and disease-fighting legislation, helps expand ONE’s grassroots membership, mobilizes key constituencies such as political and business leaders on both sides of the political aisle, and raises awareness of global poverty issues in markets nationwide.

Henry began his career in 1988 working as a door-to-door canvasser for Clean Water Action while attending Old Dominion University. After graduation, Henry served as a campaign manager for three congressional races and three senate races in Iowa, Texas, Florida, Illinois and Maryland.  In Virginia, he worked for the House and Senate Democratic Caucuses in 1993, 1995, and 1999.  In 2001, he served as campaign manager for the Democratic Coordinated Campaign, helping Gov. Warner and Lt. Gov. Tim Kaine win their respective races.  In 2005, he managed Kaine’s successful campaign for Governor in Virginia.  In 2006, Henry worked for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, managing the Committee’s vast Independent Expenditure program in the 2006 cycle-an election where the party stunned the political establishment by winning back the majority.
