ONE Campaign Signs Up 100,000+ New Members in One Week
Washington, DC – ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History added more than 108,000 new recruits in the fight against extreme poverty and global disease in the last week, exceeding the goal set in the wake of the American Idol special, “Idol Gives Back”.
After “Idol Gives Back” ran last Wednesday evening, approximately 70,000 individuals visited ONE.org and became members. Building on the “Idol Gives Back” momentum, ONE.org sent an email to its grassroots supporters and asked them to help ONE add a total of 100,000 new members in one week. ONE’s supporters surpassed the goal, adding over 108,000 new members in just seven days and increasing the number of ONE’s grassroots supporters to 2.5 million.
“Idol Gives Back was a unique opportunity for the ONE Campaign to reach a new audience of active, engaged Americans and to speak with them about what ONE is doing locally in their communities to fight extreme poverty and global disease around the world,” Susan McCue, CEO of the ONE Campaign said.
“ONE’s grassroots supporters then went above and beyond, asking their friends, neighbors and co-workers to visit ONE.org and become members, enabling the campaign to add over 108,000 new members in just one week. ONE’s members are consistently responsive and effective, regularly exceeding the goals set for them and garnering strong support for ONE’s efforts with elected officials and now too with the American public,” she said.
