Thousands of Americans Come Together to Watch Bono in Africa and Join Fight against Global AIDS and Extreme Poverty
Washington, DC– Tonight, thousands of Americans will gather in all 50 states to watch the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams broadcast live from Africa for the first time, joining U2 lead singer and DATA (Debt AIDS Trade Africa) co-founder Bono on his six country listening and learning tour of Lesotho, Rwanda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Mali and Ghana.
“Americans are coming together to learn more about what works in the fight against global AIDS and extreme poverty and how we can help lead the world in saving lives in Africa and the world’s poorest countries ,” said Paul Dioguardi of ONE. “From schools to businesses to medicines that save lives for less than a dollar a day, there’s a new story of hope in Africa, one that people across America can be part of with ONE.ORG.”
Across America, ONE supporters are organizing more than 500 local house parties to watch the broadcast and take steps to inspire and engage their neighborhoods and communities in the fight against global AIDS and extreme poverty.
The broadcast comes at a critical time, with ONE supporters asking Congress to boldly lead in fully funding the fight against global AIDS and extreme poverty. Hundreds of thousands of people in Africa and around the world are alive today because of America’s commitment to fight AIDS and poverty, and together as ONE, Americans are asking leaders to do even more to help create hope and opportunity for people in the world’s poorest countries.
From city halls to churches to college campuses, more than 2 million people from every state, political party and walk of life are now part of ONE. ONE helps Americans raise their voices as ONE against the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty, joining together to ask leaders to take the historic opportunity to save millions of lives in the world’s poorest countries.
