ONE Statement on Passage of Supplemental Humanitarian Assistance
WASHINGTON – The ONE Campaign released the following statement on the Congressional passage of a national security supplemental, which includes more than $9.2 billion in humanitarian and food assistance funding to respond to urgent crises around the world, including the African continent. The bill has been sent to President Biden’s desk for signature.
The bill also includes $250 million for the World Bank’s International Development Association’s (IDA) Crisis Response Window, which provides the zero-to-low-cost-lending organization additional capacity to respond to severe natural disasters, public health emergencies, or economic crises.
“We commend Congress for its bipartisan support of these funds at this critical time,” said Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli, President and CEO of The ONE Campaign. “As the world confronts multiple, complex global conflicts – and the human suffering that inevitably follows in their wake – it is a welcome step to see the US meet the moment in providing robust humanitarian funding to help those around the world in severe need.
“We are also pleased to see funds included for the IDA Crisis Response Window – another critical tool that can help shift countries out of crisis and onto the path of development and growth. We will work with Congress to continue its support for IDA during its replenishment later this year.”
