5 Favorite Dr. Seuss female characters

Today is Dr. Seuss’s birthday! His stories and words all are near and dear to our hearts, but what about the characters?

We picked our 5 favorite female characters from his books to celebrate today, because here at ONE, we believe it is important to invest in girls and women:

1. Sally Walden (The Cat in the Hat)

The classic story line tells of a brother-sister duo, Conrad and Sally, and their day with the Cat in the Hat and Thing One and Thing Two. The kids run into a moral dilemma at the end of the book, as they try to decide if they should tell their mom about their adventures. But who says a little imagination ever hurt?

2. Cindy Lou Who (How the Grinch Stole Christmas)

My personal favorite…a girl who saves the day! Cindy Lou Who speaks up for right and wrong and brings out the best in her community. And there’s a lesson for us all in it – you are never too young or too old to make a difference.

3. Mayzie McGrew (Daisy-Head Mayzie)

Mayzie McGrew didn’t know what to do when she sprouted a daisy out of her head! But our favorite Cat in the Hat steps in, teaching her to embrace who she is. In fact, it’s a great thing that we are all unique!

4. Aunt Annie (Dr. Seuss’s ABCs)

Big A, little A…. Aunt Annie and an alligator are absolutely awesome!

5. Yolanda Yorgenson (Dr. Seuss’s ABCs)

Young Yolanda Yorgenson knows how to raise her voice for what she believes in – she even yells it from the back of a yak! Her enthusiasm definitely inspires me to speak up.
