ONE denounces drastic cuts to House foreign assistance budget
WASHINGTON – The ONE Campaign released the below statement on the House Appropriations Committee’s insufficient foreign assistance funding topline. The Committee voted to pass an allocation for the State and Foreign Operations appropriations bill that would slash funding by more than 30%.
Tom Hart, President of The ONE Campaign:
“Such drastic cuts will make the US less competitive on the global stage, weaken strategic partnerships, and put at risk programs that help millions of families and children live more prosperous, healthy lives. We strongly urge lawmakers to reconsider.
“Foreign assistance, especially development funding, is an incredibly important tool to advance America’s foreign policy, national security, and economic priorities. It is not a handout – it is a strategic investment that can lift millions out of poverty, turn the tide against deadly diseases, strengthen our economy, and make America safer. These shortsighted cuts will have long-term consequences, jeopardize our investments, and hurt the American taxpayer.”
