Former U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte joins board of The ONE Campaign
WASHINGTON — Former U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) will join the board of directors of The ONE Campaign, the global advocacy organization co-founded by U2 lead singer Bono to fight extreme poverty and the spread of preventable diseases. Senator Ayotte represented New Hampshire in the United States Senate from 2011 to 2017, serving on the Armed Services and Homeland Security committees, and earning widespread respect as a leader on foreign policy matters.
Tom Freston, chair of the board of directors of ONE, said:
“Kelly Ayotte proved herself to be one of the brightest new leaders on international affairs during her time in the Senate and is no stranger to our mission of ending extreme poverty. She has a deep understanding of the connection between development and security, as well as of the importance of governmental leadership in these challenging times. We could not be more excited about the perspective and energy she’ll bring to ONE’S advocacy work.”
Former U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte said:
“The ONE Campaign believes passionately in the world we can build by working together, and I’m excited to help them do it as a board member. In an era of shrinking budgets and growing crises, fighting extreme poverty should continue to be a priority for western governments. During such a complex time, development plays an especially important role in not only helping people climb out of extreme poverty, but in stabilizing and securing our world.”
After leaving the Senate earlier this year, Senator Ayotte successfully shepherded the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court through Congress. Before being elected to the Senate in 2008, Ayotte served as New Hampshire’s attorney general — the first and only woman to serve the state in that role.
Senator Ayotte earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Pennsylvania State University and a juris doctorate from Villanova University School of Law.
