The ONE Campaign responds to Prime Minister David Cameron’s speech at the United Nations Summit on the Global Goals (27 September 2015)
Diane Sheard, UK Director of The ONE Campaign, said:
“The Prime Minister is right to call on other governments to follow the UK’s example and invest 0.7% of their national income in aid, a promise first made at the United Nations in 1970. The world will not eliminate extreme poverty without leaders increasing aid, prioritising girls and women, and tackling the scourge of illicit finance.
“To deliver the new Global Goals by 2030, the UK should pledge to invest half of our lifesaving aid in the least developed countries by 2020. These countries lack the necessary domestic resources to lift themselves out of poverty, yet they receive less than a third of global aid.
“As the Prime Minister says, ‘the world is watching’.”
