The ONE Campaign Responds to Announcement of New UK Aid Strategy
Speaking after the announcement of the new UK Aid Strategy, which gives new responsibilities to Whitehall Departments on delivering international development, Diane Sheard, UK Director of The ONE Campaign, said:
“Spreading the responsibility for UK aid among government departments beyond DFID risks playing with fire. The UK rightly has a strong international reputation, with a track record of making smart aid decisions that deliver maximum results under full transparency. The new aid strategy must not undermine this by diluting the focus of aid away from its core purpose: reducing global poverty.
“We will watch with interest the second part of the Government’s new aid policy when the Spending Review is announced on Wednesday. We hope that those living in the poorest countries who most need our support – as they work to lift themselves out of poverty – will not be left behind.”
