ONE response to UK announcement on investment in African youth through health and education
Today the UK Government announced a raft of measures that will be boost investment into the education and health of young people across Sub-Saharan Africa. The announcement comes as British Prime Minister Theresa May ends her three-day trip to South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya.
Speaking in response, Kate Critchley, Europe Executive Director, said: “The package of investments in young people across Sub-Saharan Africa is a shrewd move by the British Government. We know that poverty is sexist, and so the focus on improving access to healthcare and education for girls and women will accelerate progress in ending extreme poverty.
“It’s absolutely essential that all governments – both of donor and developing countries – work together to harness the potential of Sub-Saharan Africa’s young people. By ensuring they have the education to learn skills and the economic opportunities to apply them, they can be the engine that drives global prosperity.”
