ONE response to appointment of Rt Hon Liz Truss as Foreign Secretary

Today, Prime Minister Boris Johnson reshuffled the Cabinet, appointing the Rt Hon Liz Truss MP to head up the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Responding, Tim Cole, Europe Executive Director for The ONE Campaign said: “Liz Truss comes into the job with the three major challenges of Covid, Climate and Conflict demanding her immediate attention – talk about hitting the ground running. With a smaller budget to work with following the cuts to U.K. aid, COP26 in Glasgow just around the corner and the U.K. still president of the G7, she will need to do a lot more with a lot less.

“We hope the new Secretary of State builds on the UK’s legacy of being a global leader in fighting poverty and preventable disease. An important first step here is to accelerate the pace and delivery of sharing doses of the COVID19 vaccine with other countries.”
