ONE Campaign responds to the Chancellor’s Spending Round 2013
Adrian Lovett, Executive Director for Europe at ONE said:
“The Chancellor is right to stand by Britain’s promise to the world’s poorest people. The continued commitment to invest 0.7% of UK national income in international aid makes a world of difference. Because of British aid, a child is vaccinated every two seconds, five million children each year can go primary school and seven million families each year get clean water.
“We are watching closely to ensure that every penny of UK aid gets the best results in the fight against extreme poverty and we are concerned to see any shift in aid spending away from the Department for International Development. Other departments do not have the same stringent aid delivery standards in place when it comes to aid transparency and to the core purpose of reducing poverty.
“UK aid must be transparent and accountable both to UK taxpayers and to people in developing countries.”
