Good analysis of the challenges but limited concrete action – ONE Campaign Reacts to Final G7 Communique

In their closing communique at the end of their summit in Hiroshima, G7 leaders signalled renewed action to tackle food security as well as support for a roadmap on reform of the multilateral development banks, and called for the fulfilment of its own pledge to channel $100bn Special Drawing Rights to vulnerable countries.They also signalled their support for more African representation at the G20. However, with the summit dominated by global security and the situation in Ukraine, these proposals were not matched by significant new commitments or concrete action.

“The outcome of this G7 meeting is a good analysis of the major challenges facing our world. There were positive steps but not the urgent and decisive action the world needs at a moment like this.

“Warm words and calls for others to step up are not what is required from the leaders of the world’s largest economies.

“At a time of great jeopardy we need concrete commitments of significant new finance to tackle poverty and climate change.”
