G7 leaders seen at Côte des Basques beach in Biarritz
Biarritz – The ONE Campaign is urging leaders to make sure the G7 summit in Biarritz delivers long and lasting change for girls and women worldwide.
Earlier today, with the help of sand artist Sam Dougados, ONE sketched out giant faces of the G7 leaders into the sand at the Côte des basques beach in Biarritz, close to where the real leaders will meet from tomorrow onwards. The leaders’ faces could be seen from afar, alongside the call to “Turn the tide for gender equality”, before they were washed away by the rising sea. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be two more iterations of the sand art following the developments of the summit.
Friederike Röder, EU and France director of ONE, said: “We cannot wait another 108 years to achieve gender equality worldwide. We are urging G7 leaders to turn the tide for gender equality. We have heard G7 leaders making great promises to support and empower women and girls. But words can easily be washed away. We want to see real progress in Biarritz; we want leaders to deliver a feminist G7”.
