Started by 22 year old Somali Twitter user Diana Salah and a friend, the hashtag has generated almost 50,000 tweets. The images depict the continent in a dynamic, positive light conveying the long overdue message that despite mainstream media’s dark and dismal portrayal, there is a lot more to Africa than just poverty, famine, war or safaris.
By sharing snippets of their daily lives, these Twitter users are helping dispel stereotypes, inspire curiosity, and generate appreciation for the continent’s cultural, ecological, social and political diversity.
