The international community has set itself ambitious and urgently needed goals for sustainable development by 2030. As part of the 2030 Agenda, it has agreed, among other things, on how to promote health and prosperity worldwide, contain the climate crisis and end poverty. There is still time until 2030, but so far progress towards the goals has been far too slow. Politicians and business urgently need to do more to ensure that the development goals – and thus the promise of a life worth living for future generations – can still be achieved.

Young voices worldwide demand more development policy
If you ask young people in very different regions of the world, there is a surprising amount of agreement on the question of which development goals need to be implemented particularly urgently: climate protection and access to good education are most frequently mentioned. If you ask further, young people have many constructive suggestions on how to improve youth participation in political processes or how to improve financing in order to move closer to implementing the 2030 Agenda.
A survey on youth participation
In the summer of 2024, a young team of student volunteers conducted a survey on youth participation. Both the Youth Advisory Council of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the ONE Youth Ambassadors were involved. The full results of the survey can be viewed here.
The Youth Advisory Council is an advisory body to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The 16 members currently support the work of the BMZ on future-oriented issues of German development policy from the perspective of young people.
ONE Youth Ambassadors are part of a network of global activists who are working with us for more global justice. In Germany, our youth ambassadors have been working since 2011 to raise awareness of the successes of development cooperation, to inspire more people to join the fight against extreme poverty and to demand more development policy commitment from politicians.
The Hamburg Sustainability Conference
In October 2024, the Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) will take place in Hamburg for the first time. The conference will focus on the question of how the sustainable development goals can be achieved by 2030, ensuring progress at greater speed.. The survey was developed in advance of the conference and discussed at HSC with representatives from politics, business and civil society.

Im Rahmen der Agenda 2030 wurde unter anderem vereinbart, wie Gesundheit und Wohlstand weltweit gefördert, die Klimakrise eingedämmt und Armut beendet werden soll. Bis zum Jahr 2030 bleibt zwar noch Zeit, doch bisher ist der Fortschritt mit Blick auf die Ziele viel zu gering. Junge Stimmen weltweit fordern mehr Entwicklungspolitik
Fragt man junge Menschen in ganz unterschiedlichen Weltregionen, herrscht erstaunlich viel Einigkeit bei der Frage, welche Entwicklungsziele besonders dringend umgesetzt werden müssen: Klimaschutz und der Zugang zu guter Bildung werden am häufigsten genannt. Fragt man weiter, haben junge Menschen viele konstruktive Vorschläge, wie man beispielsweise die Beteiligung der Jugend an politischen Prozessen oder die Finanzierung verbessern könnte, um der Umsetzung der Agenda 2030 näher zu kommen.
Eine Umfrage zur Jugendbeteiligung
Ein junges, ehrenamtliches Team aus Schüler*innen und Student*innen hat im Sommer 2024 eine Umfrage zur Jugendbeteiligung durchgeführt. Beteiligt war sowohl der Jugendbeirat des Bundesministeriums für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit, als auch die ONE-Jugendbotschafter*innen. Die vollständigen Ergebnisse der Umfrage können hier eingesehen werden.
Der Jugendbeirat ist ein beratendes Gremium des Bundesministeriums für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ). Aktuell 16 Mitglieder begleiten die Arbeit des BMZ zu Zukunftsfragen der deutschen Entwicklungspolitik aus der Perspektive junger Menschen.
ONE-Jugendbotschafter*innen sind Teil eines Netzwerks an globalen Aktivist*innen, die sich mit uns für mehr globale Gerechtigkeit stark machen. In Deutschland setzen sich unsere Jugendbotschafter*innen seit 2011 dafür ein, die Erfolge der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit bekannter zu machen, mehr Menschen für den Kampf gegen extreme Armut zu begeistern und von der Politik mehr entwicklungspolitisches Engagement einzufordern.
Die Hamburger Sustainability Conference
Im Oktober 2024 findet in Hamburg zum ersten Mal die Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) statt. Im Mittelpunkt der Konferenz steht die Frage, wie die nachhaltigen Entwicklungsziele bis zum Jahr 2030 erreicht werden können. Die Umfrage wurde im Vorfeld der Konferenz entwickelt und auf der Veranstaltung mit Vertretern der Politik, Wirtschaft und Zivilgesellschaft diskutiert.
