ONE welcomes commitments to girls education at G7 summit
QUEBEC CITY, Canada — The ONE Campaign, the international policy and advocacy organization co-founded by U2 lead singer Bono to fight extreme poverty and the spread of preventable diseases in Africa, released the following statement today welcoming an announcement at the G7 Summit in Charlevoix of $3.8 billion for girls education, particularly in fragile and conflict settings.
Stuart Hickox, the Canada director of The ONE Campaign:
“Today’s announcement of CAD$3.8 billion for girls education at the G7 today is exciting and we are eager to learn more about it. With 130 million girls out of school around the world right now, any dollar that helps a girl get an education is a good one.”
The ONE Campaign is a non-partisan policy and advocacy organization of more than 9 million people around the world taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa.
