Guidelines for Submitting Your Application
The 2009 ONE Africa Award seeks to recognize, reward, and advance the exceptional work of an individual or civil society organization based in Africa dedicated to helping Africa achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) at a community, national or regional level. The 2009 ONE Africa Award Recipient will receive an award up to $100,000 to help advance and expand upon its outstanding work within the civil society community in Africa.
Eligibility Requirements:
The following types of individuals and organizations are eligible to apply for the ONE Africa Award:
- Individuals or civil society organizations based in Africa that demonstrate a commitment to and success in helping Africans meet one or more of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
- Applicants may also include advocacy/pressure groups and think tanks engaged in governance activities such as the monitoring of resource flows and/or holding governments accountable to their MDG commitments
2009 Submission Guidelines:
If you are nominating an individual or organization, you must complete the entire application. Applications must be submitted by Friday, August 21, 2009 in one of the two formats available at one.org/international/africaaward.

- The PDF form available on the website.
Applications completed using the PDF template should be submitted by email to oneaward@one.org.
2009 Selection Criteria and Process:
The 2009 ONE Africa Award recipient will be notified in October, 2009 after the completion of the selection process. All applications will be evaluated based on the following five categories:
- Extent to which the individual/organization has designed and implemented an innovative program that employs new approaches to impact a specific sector.
- Extent to which the individual/organization demonstrates and communicates their ability to impact and advance at least one of the Millennium Development Goals at a community, regional or national level.
- Ability of the individual’s or organization’s efforts to be scaled up and/or replicated by others.
- The demonstration of strong accountability mechanisms used to receive community buy-in (i.e. community leadership consultations and assessments and transparency of operations).
- Extent to which the individual/organization has employed creative partnerships to achieve its goal and ensured coordination with other development actors. These partnerships may include public and/or private sector organizations.
