With the help of some friends and sponsorships, we were able to hand out some pretty sweet prizes to the schools that showed they were effective poverty fighters. For example:
- When Hofstra won the first weekly challenge they received 140 ticket’s to Alicia Key’s Keep a Child Alive Black Ball in New York City.
- Sacred Heart won the challenge for designing the best ONE shirt, and we sent them 100 shirts with their design printed on ‘em.
- In January 2008, we flew out one leader from each of the top 100 schools to the Power 100 Summit in Washington, DC. They heard from the poverty experts, all-star activists, and
- In March 2008, we gave $1,000 grants to the Top 10 schools to create their own poverty advocacy projects
We're here to fight poverty but we're here to have fun too. (And if you've got a problem with that, I've got some terrible 1980's TV commercials to send your way.) So keep your eyes open for a slew of new prizes in next year’s challenge.
