The first step in engagement is raising awareness about an issue and what each student can do to make a difference. Through awareness, you want to create a buzz on your campus. The more people who are talking about these issues, the more interest you will be able to generate for future events and participation.
Spread the word:
Tabling
Set up a table in a high-traffic area of campus and invite people to sign up with ONE and the ONE Campus Challenge in support of the fight against global poverty and preventable disease.
Be sure to check out our guide on How To: Table for tips.
Organizational Endorsements
Ask campus groups to post ONE banners on their websites, and attend their meetings. Think about clubs with similar issues, the College Democrats and Republicans, or Greek groups.
Ask campus groups to place ONE materials on their tables at events they are sponsoring, and offer to let them distribute their materials at your events.
ONE in the Classroom
Ask professors who teach relevant subjects to endorse ONE (International Development, Africana Studies, International Affairs, International Economics, Public Health, etc.).
Ask to make a brief presentation about ONE in some of these related classes to recruit new membership.
Banners and Fliers
Create banners and fliers with attention-grabbing facts.
Provide an email address or meeting time so students know how to become involved.
Hang signs and banners at sporting events, dining halls, dormitories, and other high-traffic areas around campus.
Make ONE Members Visible
Have your team members wear t-shirts on the same day around campus or to well-attended campus events.
Have college athletes wear wristbands during games and encourage teammates to do the same.
"Band" your professors, classmates, and friends. Contact your COA if you need ONE bands.
Campus Activity Fairs
Campus Media
Ask your campus newspaper to print a ONE advertisement.
Submit editorials to your campus newspaper explaining why people should get involved with ONE.
Ask college TV and radio stations to mention ONE on the air or give you 5 minutes to talk about the Campus Challenge.
