ONE is a global advocacy and campaigning organization backed by more than 2 million people from around the world dedicated to fighting extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. ONE has offices in Washington, DC, London, Berlin and Abuja. This position will work out of our DC location, under the direction of the Senior Director of US Campaigns.
The Field Director will oversee and manage the ONE field team and lead on strategy related to ONE's grassroots advocacy in the U.S., including the expansion of the field operation and the development of ONE membership. The Field Director will report to the Sr. Director of US Campaigns and will be supported by a Deputy Director, three DC staff, and seven field organizers and consultants based throughout the country. The primary responsibilities include: creating the political will for ONE's top legislative priorities on the ground; training and development of organizers and ONE members; recruiting and cultivating grasstop leaders across the country; creating and capitalizing on important moments for mobilizing key constituencies.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Spearhead strategic planning related to all field operations including targeted expansion
- Develop ONE's member engagement strategy to recruit and train ONE Leaders (super activists)
- Oversee training for new ONE field staff and ongoing training for current staff
- Develop and oversee membership events in DC and targeted states
- Further develop a nationwide grasstops network and create plan of engagement
- Create metrics and reports to track progress within the field operation
- Closely collaborate with other departments, especially legislative affairs, outreach and communications, to coordinate on advocacy tactics for targeted legislators
- Act as key liaison with the ONE internet team to develop member mobilization tools and tactics
- Supervise and lead weekly field meetings and monthly ONE Leader meetings
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Extensive experience in managing and supervising teams
- Bachelor's degree and at least 7 years of field experience, preferably political campaigns at the campaign manager , political director, or field director level
- Experience in overseeing budgets
- Proven experience in leading long term projects
- Knowledge of the legislative process
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with shifting priorities
- Strong writing, presentation and communication skills
