The Queen repeated the Government’s pledge to give 0.7% of annual national income in international aid from next year. However the Government’s commitment – included in the Coalition Agreement – to introduce legislation to invest this amount in aid annually was not included in the speech. More

Today the House of Commons International Development Committee has published its findings from its review of EU Development Assistance. Adrian Lovett, Europe Executive Director of anti-poverty group ONE said: “This report shows how David Cameron and other European leaders can secure a good deal for the world’s poorest people: first, protect aid in the EU budget negotiations. And second, insist that it is further prioritised towards the countries and people that need it most." More
