Yesterday was an exciting afternoon for the ONE intern team, thanks to a trip to Capitol Hill. Making visits to senators from all 50 states, we delivered the names of the thousands of ONE members who have signed our agriculture and budget petitions nationwide along with hundreds of hand-written letters from passionate foreign aid advocates.

The Senate staff, who welcomed us warmly into their offices, told us that they had already heard from a number of ONE members who have asked for the continued funding of lifesaving aid and development programs that are currently at risk of cuts. Several offices were particularly impressed by the size of our petition and the number of constituents who care enough about eradicating extreme poverty abroad to make their voices heard.

Meeting people in government who are already aware of our messages is truly a sign that our work – and yours – is making a difference. Your voices are crucial to ensuring that Congress continues to fund programs abroad that will eradicate extreme poverty. For me, the experience was an inspiring glimpse into how much power we all have to influence our elected
representatives and to make a real difference in our communities and around the world. I hope that by sharing it with you all, you will be inspired, too.

There’s still time to sign our petition and to urge Congress that we need to continue funding lifesaving poverty and hunger-fighting programs like Feed the Future. Take a minute to find out more, and join more than 400,000 others worldwide by making your voice heard today.
