In about half an hour, the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold a hearing on PEPFAR and President Obama’s approach to funding AIDS programs.
According to David Bryden at the Center for Global Health Policy, a number of tough issues will be discussed.
For example, how will countries expand access to the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV if donors like the U.S. slow the pace of their aid? And why is Obama’s approach to AIDS funding so controversial?
Speakers include Paula Akugizibwe of ARASA, a young civil rights leader in Africa, and Wafaa El-Sadr, director of the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs at Columbia University.
To watch, go to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs’ website (find the video link on the lower left corner of the page). It won’t be archived, so you have to watch it live — but in case you miss it, be sure to check back for the written testimony.
