Last September, while addressing the United Nations General Assembly, President Obama said something that gave hope to millions of people committed to seeing extreme poverty end in our lifetime:
We will support the Millennium Development Goals, and approach next year’s summit with a global plan to make them a reality. And we will set our sights on the eradication of extreme poverty in our time.
Recommitting ourselves to the promise of the MDG’s will require a renewed push from the public, corporations and governments both rich and poor. Help us ask President Obama to follow through on his pledge and take the lead on achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. Here’s the petition we’ll be sending to President Obama:
Please lead a global effort to reach the Millennium Development Goals by their 2015 deadline. This effort must fight corruption, create new jobs, empower women and increase smart investments to beat poverty and disease. When you meet with world leaders in New York this September, please agree to a clear plan and commit our government to do its part to make this plan a reality.
Please join us and tell President Obama to take the lead on achieving the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
