Big news: Next Monday, March 29, ONE will be hosting an interactive conference call with Melinda Gates and Melanne Verveer, the U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues.
On the call–which will take place at 7:30 PM (EST)– we’ll talk about how smart programs are transforming lives in the world’s poorest places- particularly for women. RSVP here to join us next Monday.

This is the first night of Passover. The call will occur during the Sedar which is one of the most important events in the Jewish calendar. I am very disappointed that One.org is preventing members of a major religion from participating in this important call.

I would rather hear from the people “on the ground” in Africa and elsewhere about how their lives have changed for the better from our involvement in their lives through our advocacy for them. They are the most important people in our movement – correct?
If so, why is it that we hear so little from them? I don’t mean the leaders or business people of Africa (they’re important too) but the most BRILLIANT tactic that our movement can take in polishing up our image & showing how much we value people from the “developing world” is to actually have them speak for themselves to us.
Just a thought.

After I heard that this conference had been scheduled for March 29, the first night of Passover, I clicked on to the website and expected that the organizers would have already received negative feedback, came to their senses, and rescheduled the event. Well, saw no post about this being rescheduled nor any post of apology to one of the largest religons in the world. I did however see a comment regarding this serious (possibly discriminatory) scheduling error. The comment was left 3 days ago but there was no indication of a response to it.
Truly bad form on the part of the organizers and the guest speakers. Never seen this mistake happen on Easter Sunday.
