The president’s Fiscal Year 2011 Budget Request includes $58.5 billion for the International Affairs budget, which funds almost all of our smart, proven and affordable efforts to fight global poverty and preventable disease. ONE is joining a broad coalition of NGOs, faith groups and others to send the letter below to senators and members of Congress urging them to support full funding for the International Affairs Budget.
ONE members are getting in on the action by Tweeting @ Congress in support of a strong International Affairs Budget.
You can get more details on the president’s International Affairs Budget here and the text of the letter is below.
Dear Member of Congress:
We the undersigned organizations support the president’s request of $58.5b, as the minimum amount needed for the International Affairs account for FY11. This amount is expected to be 1.4% of total outlays of federal spending in FY11.
Our support is based on factors as varied as our specific missions themselves. But we are united around a common belief that the budget for International Affairs is critical to U.S. foreign policy and our shared future with people and nations around the world.
Sincerely,

Hi I just called my Congresswoman (Miami Beloved Mrs. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen) and requested her support for the Intenational Affairs Budget…1.5% of the Overall Budget… wao, we can do better than that, can we?
As for John’s Comments… It doesn’t matter much who we help, so long we help somebody in need!
I love you John, receive my hugs brother.

That is completely absurd, that is far too much money to give to other nations when we are struggling at home. I am sick of bleeding hearts trying to save the world, it’s not going to happen. That money would be better spent on the poor of America or better yet improving our infrastructure. 1.5% of the National Budget, that makes me sick.

Hi Kyle, your shortsightedness is unfortunate. We “bleeding hearts” may sicken you, but taking a couple bucks a month out of my pocket towards a starving little boy or girl is far more important than a frappe at McDs. Take my money gov’t, I don’t need the high blood pressure from excess sugar anyway.

There are plenty of services already set up in the US to help our own. Many times it is either a matter of not knowing where to turn to for help or just plain pride stopping people from reaching out for help, unfortunately there is a stigma in this country that if you are getting gov’t help you are either lazy or uneducated. Last time I check we did not have massive numbers of people straving to death in this country soley because they can not get a bag of rice or loaf of bread.

The world needs US support.

Hi Aaron,
“Our support is based on factors as varied as our specific missions themselves. But we are united around a common belief that the budget for International Affairs is critical to U.S. foreign policy and our shared future with people and nations around the world.”
I don’t understand?
